Responsibilities
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to own our technical strategy, engineering organisation, software delivery and production operations. You will build and lead our internal engineering team, manage external engineering delivery partners, and establish a culture of security, quality, accountability and continuous improvement.
This is a senior leadership role with meaningful hands-on technical involvement. You will work closely with UK product and business leadership and be accountable for both building and running reliable software. You will also own the pragmatic adoption of AI across engineering workflows and suitable product capabilities, balancing measurable value with security, privacy, quality and regulatory risk
Own and communicate the engineering strategy, target architecture, technical roadmap and priorities, aligned with product goals, customer outcomes and regulatory obligations.
Take end-to-end accountability for discovery, estimation, architecture, development, testing, release, production support, incident response and continual improvement.
Build the VN engineering organisation: define team structure and roles; participate in structured hiring; onboard, coach and retain strong engineers; and create clear expectations and development paths.
Lead internal engineers and manage external engineering delivery partners against agreed outcomes, quality standards, security requirements, service levels, knowledge-transfer plans and delivery commitments.
Maintain sufficient technical depth to challenge designs, lead architecture and code reviews, resolve complex delivery or production issues and make sound build-versus-buy decisions.
Establish and enforce engineering standards for secure software development, code quality, automated testing, CI/CD, release management, documentation, dependency management and technical-debt reduction
Own production reliability and operational readiness, including observability, capacity, availability, performance, backup and recovery, incident management and root-cause remediation.
Embed security and privacy by design, including least privilege, tenant isolation, encryption, auditability, secrets management, vulnerability remediation and data minimisation.
Protect financial-data integrity through transactional consistency, accurate calculations, reconciliation controls, immutable audit trails and appropriate segregation of duties.
Partner with Product, Operations, Compliance and business leaders in the UK and Vietnam to shape requirements, manage trade-offs, communicate risk and provide transparent delivery forecasts.
Requirements
Substantial software-engineering experience, including several years leading product engineering teams or multiple delivery streams.
Evidence of building or scaling engineering teams, recruiting strong technical talent and developing engineers and technical leaders.
Proven ownership of complex software products from architecture and delivery through production operations, with accountability for reliability, security and measurable business outcomes.
Strong system-design knowledge across distributed systems, APIs, event-driven workflows, relational data, caching, asynchronous processing, cloud infrastructure and observability.
Practical experience with a relevant modern stack. Our platform uses TypeScript, React, Node.js/NestJS, Fastify, PostgreSQL/Aurora, DynamoDB, Redis, AWS, containerised workloads, CI/CD and infrastructure as code. Deep expertise in every component is not required, but you must lead credible technical decisions across the stack.
Strong understanding of financial-data integrity, database transactions, decimal precision, reconciliation, audit logging, data retention and secure multi-tenant design.
Demonstrated application of secure SDLC, threat and vulnerability management, identity and access control, encryption, secrets management, incident response and disaster recovery.
Experience defining engineering metrics, service objectives, release controls and operational support models in high-availability environments
Demonstrated ability to assess and adopt AI-assisted engineering tools or AI-enabled capabilities with appropriate governance, privacy, security, evaluation and human oversight.
Experience managing external engineering partners or distributed teams, including delivery governance, quality assurance, knowledge transfer and risk management.
Strong commercial judgement and the ability to balance delivery speed, engineering quality, operational risk, cost and long-term maintainability.
Clear written and spoken English and the ability to communicate with senior business, product, risk and operational stakeholders across cultures.
A collaborative, low-ego leadership style with sound judgement, personal accountability, resilience and evidence-based decision-making.
A degree in computer science, software engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
*** Nice to have
Experience in fintech, banking, payments, custody, client-money, reconciliation, financial reporting or another regulated environment.
Familiarity with FCA expectations, CASS controls, ISO 27001 or comparable security and assurance frameworks.
Experience growing a new engineering centre or transitioning product knowledge and delivery ownership between organisations.
Experience with Amazon Cognito, ECS Fargate, S3, SQS, KMS, CloudFront, WAF, CloudWatch, Datadog, Prisma, BullMQ or TanStack.
Experience evaluating generative AI, agentic workflows, retrieval systems or machine-learning services for production use.
Relevant AWS, security, architecture, data or delivery certification
