Responsibilities
This is a senior individual contributor role with immediate technical leadership responsibilities and growth into people management. You'll be our first Vietnam hire, reporting directly to the company's founder based in Ho Chi Minh City. You will have full autonomy to make technical decisions and will be expected to help build out a development team locally.
Requirements
Technical Requirements Must Have:
Angular expertise - You should be the person other developers in the Vietnam office come to with Angular questions.
Production experience with customer-facing B2B applications where your code directly impacts revenue.
Legacy codebase experience - You've worked with messy, older codebases and know how to improve them incrementally.
Firefighting skills - You've debugged critical production issues under pressure with customers affected.
Preferred:
Express.js and Firebase experience.
Experience with technical debt reduction and refactoring strategies.
Understanding of frontend performance optimization.
Leadership experience required.
People Management:
Direct experience managing 2-4 developers on technical projects.
Mentoring junior developers with measurable improvement in their skills.
Code review leadership - establishing standards and providing constructive feedback.
Performance management - having difficult conversations about code quality and work habits.
Task delegation - understanding different developers' capabilities and assigning work accordingly.
Technical Leadership:
Architecture decisions that other people had to implement.
Work scoping and breakdown for complex features across multiple developers.
Process improvement - implementing better engineering practices for a team.
Quality standards - establishing and enforcing code quality without killing team morale.
Required Background:
2+ years at B2B startups with real paying customers and growth pressure.
Small team experience (5-50 person companies) where you wore multiple hats.
Customer impact awareness - understanding how technical decisions affect business outcomes.
Resource constraints - experience in building quality software with limited time and budget.
